Dr Tony Worby
Chair of WA Reef Regen Steering Committee
Dr Tony Worby has spent thirty years at the frontier of ocean and climate science — from seventeen expeditions into Antarctic sea ice, to leading some of Australia's most influential scientific institutions. Few people carry that depth of understanding when it comes to our oceans, and fewer still have the ability to make it feel relevant to everyone.
Right now, Tony is channelling that expertise into something close to home: a landmark Coral Reef Regeneration Project, developed in collaboration with WAMSI, expert coral scientists and the broader WA community. At its heart, this project is about more than restoration science, it's about bringing West Australians into the story of their own reefs, building a shared understanding of what's happening beneath the surface, and creating genuine community connection to one of the most remarkable marine environments on the planet.
On the night, Tony will unpack the science in a way that is accessible, fascinating and grounding, helping us all understand what our reefs are, what makes them extraordinary, and how the WA community plays a real role in their future.
